More than five years have passed since the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Keeping up with the times, a gameplay trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was shown during Sony's PlayStation Experience event.
During Sony's PlayStation Experience event, a trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the sixth installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, was shown. Like its predecessors, Infinite is a fighting game in which players battle each other using characters from both the Marvel Comics universe and Capcom's video game franchises. The title will feature two-on-two battles and introduce some changes to gameplay. For starters, you will no longer be able to rely on your partner for assist attacks; instead, fighters can be switched at any time during the fight, even mid-combo.
Infinity Gems and Gameplay
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will implement a mechanic involving the Infinity Gems, with each gem granting unique abilities (similar to what was seen in Marvel Super Heroes). For example, the Power Gem increases damage, while the Time Gem increases the fighter's attack and movement speed. Each player selects an Infinity Gem before the battle begins, granting an ability that can be activated at any time, and a second, stronger ability that has yet to be finalized. Modes include Story, Training, Mission, Arcade, and Online Multiplayer.
Characters and Platforms
As for the characters, in the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite trailer we can see the Marvel side in action, consisting of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and Captain America, facing off against the Capcom side, made up of Mega Man X, Ryu, and Morrigan. It's likely that this new installment will focus more on popular heroes from Marvel's current cinematic universe, such as Ant-Man and the crew of Guardians of the Galaxy. After all, the name itself links it to the upcoming Marvel film 'Avengers: Infinity Wars'. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is being developed by Capcom and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game does not have a concrete release date, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.
