When it comes to generating images with artificial intelligence, you can use an online platform like Midjourney or DreamStudio, download a mobile app, or experiment with local models by installing Stable Diffusion. However, Synthesys X lets you generate images with a Google Chrome extension based on results from Google Images and other services.
The conflicts surrounding AI models are far from disappearing, but their use does not stop. In fact, some high-profile companies have already decided to take advantage of their benefits: Recently, Netflix published a three-minute animated short with AI-generated backgrounds... and a sector of the Web responded with the expected virulence.
Despite the complaints, the development of this technology continues, and today we find a new service, Synthesys X. The main difference is that it does not work through a dedicated site or app, but rather depends on an extension compatible with Google Chrome (and other Chromium flavors).
Synthesys X: An extension to generate images with artificial intelligence
In essence, Synthesys X behaves as a dynamic "Img2Img". Instead of wasting time preparing a prompt, all we have to do is search for images in Google Images or other similar services, and use their results as a source of inspiration. Basically, we right-click on the image and select the "Revisualize this image" option.
Generation takes a few seconds, and each phase delivers two images. To download them, just hover over them and click the Download button. The standard version of Synthesys X delivers images at 512 by 512 pixels, the same resolution used by the initial Stable Diffusion models.
The extension also has options to create variations of a result and generate new images in high resolution, but everything suggests they will be part of a premium service. This can be seen in the Synthesys X menu: its free tier grants 25 generations per month, although using the Try Again button on the same image does not reduce that number.
As for the quality of the images, I can say that Synthesys X is on par with other conventional models. Human figures remain a major problem (six fingers, three arms, etc.), but if you're thinking of generating landscapes or patterns, I think you'll find some surprises. Try it!
