When thinking about the computing market, Microsoft holds a huge share, ruling it with its office suite and the Windows operating system. Another market that is growing rapidly is that of mobile devices—in some countries, a citizen owns two smartphones. Microsoft has seen a great business opportunity here and decided to enhance Continuum (included in Windows 10) and change the display mode between desktop or tablet on your device, thereby monopolizing the device market with Windows.
This is why we'll see how we can use Windows on a desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.
As we mentioned earlier, Continuum comes preinstalled in Windows 10 with great improvements (due to the boost and development of the environment). For this reason, Continuum activates when you connect or disconnect (peripherals) on your device, such as a keyboard or mouse (USB or Bluetooth), and the system will change.
For example, when you connect them (keyboard or mouse), the system switches to desktop mode; when you disconnect them, the device returns to touch mode (tablet). In the latter case, buttons enlarge and the taskbar and start menu adapt to the screen.
Continuum mode adapts to each tablet, and you'll use the start menu instead of the desktop (switching between apps in the best Android style). Other important points are that all shortcuts disappear, you'll find device shutdown at the bottom left, and at the top left (three horizontal lines) you'll access most-used apps, Control Panel, Settings, and File Explorer, among other functions.
We can also customize tablet mode; go to 'Settings', 'System' and choose 'Tablet mode', or access it with the shortcut 'WIN + I'. From here you can show icons of your programs in the taskbar (by default they are hidden).
You can also determine that upon restarting, the device starts in tablet or desktop mode (regardless of whether you have a keyboard or mouse connected).
Truly, the inclusion of Continuum in Windows 10 makes the operating system universal, allowing you to use it on a computer, Smart TV, or mobile device, thus unifying your OS across all your devices. You'll also be able to sync environments like Skype, OneDrive, OneNote, Groove Music, and Xbox, among many other services that Microsoft pushes in the market.
The possibilities that Continuum offers Windows 10 are countless, from working on a desktop, watching movies on your Smart TV, or enjoying friends on a mobile device. Although tablet mode still has much to improve compared to desktop mode, it provides us with a lot of solutions.
